Male Mandrill in Pastels

I've worked with mandrills in the past and I think they're one of the most striking looking primates. This one isn't any particular mandrill I know. I think I'd originally planned it to be more realistic/representational, but I enjoyed playing with the pastels so much that it became a little bit stylised & unreal - it's become one of my favourite paintings because it's quite dramatic.
